The Lost Art of Wood Engraving

Printmaker Peter McLean will be in town for a Wood Engraving workshop in May. This two-day, hands on workshop exploring the art of wood engraving is suitable for beginners or those with some prior printmaking experience who want to explore a new technique. Prints can be produced without a press and using only a small number of specialized tools, so it is suitable for those without a large studio space or budget.

This workshop will cover all aspects of wood engraving including: history of the medium with examples to see; image design; printing block preparation; correct use of engraving tools to create an image; and hand printing. Students will produce a black and white image of their own design and print a small edition. All specialized materials and equipment will be provided.

Peter teaches at the National Art School, Sydney, the Australian National University School of Art and at Megalo Print Studio, both in Canberra.

Be quick, space is limited. More information here.
